Add a reply option to blogger comments like Wordpress

If you Are using blogger platform for your blog than during some stage of your blogger life you must have noticed that blogger does not have Reply option to it comments.This is one of the major reason why people migrate towards Disqus or IntenseDebate comment Platform.

With a very little change to your template you can add this hack to your blog.

Adding Comment Replies to your blog.

Step [1] In your dashboard Click 'Layout' > 'Edit Html'> Tick the 'Expand Widget templates' box.

Step[2] Find the following code in your blogs Html : <data:commentPostedByMsg/> 
 
Step[3]. Paste the following code Directly Below/After <data:commentPostedByMsg/>

Important !
In order to make this work you must add your blog Id .
What is your blog ID??
Simply go to your layout page, posting page or any of the pages and copy your I.D. from the address bar at the top of the page.



Replace URL of image with any image of your choice or you can choose one from below-

  2. Hey i added it to my blog.. After that all my posts disappeared !! What i mean is when i click on a post title, i get a blank page only. Just a couple of posts are working fine rest all the posts are facing this problem. I have removed the hack from the blog now but still facing the same issue. Please help.

    This may be because you may have some tag left open.
    Make sure you apply the hack correctly.
    Provide your blog address.So i can look at it.

  10. Unfortunately I have to confirm this hack does not work. Reply option does not show and if clicking through comments section the article disappears leaving only the widget side bar shifted from right to left.
    Using blogger in draft. Looks like I have to sign up to another solution. Thanks for trying for us though to make replies possible without.

  11. Barnaby, I'm sooo glad you posted this comment! I tried this hack a few weeks ago and it didn't work. I didn't undo the changes I made to my HTML and shortly afterwards I noticed the same problem you described where the article is missing and the widget is to the left. I forgot what I did to cause the problem...and wasn't even sure if it was a problem with the HTML or a glitch with Blogger. Long story short, I subscribed to these comments and when you left the note I realized that this was the problem! I'm so happy that I was able to fix it. :-D Thanks!

    Actually I think I know what it is. I've been looking at some other posts on the subject, easy to find. It looks like you missed the '+' sign several times in front of 'data:post.id' , 'data:comment.anchorName' and 'data:comment.author'. The trouble with cut and paste is symbols can disappear depending on the app you use. I'm surprised nobody worked this out so far. It works now :) .

    glad to help. If you're still subscribed it's working like this:
    "; + data:comment.anchorName" (that is space, plus symbol, space) in the three places as indicated in my other post. Enjoy.

    When i compare above code with my template code,i too find that the + signs are missing in several positions.
    So i edit the hack and now it is working fine.

    make sure you add proper image url in the code....and place your code after data:commentPostedByMsg/

  26. hi! the code seems to have worked as i now have the 'reply to comment' appearing - this is great.

    however when i click on to 'reply to a comment' a dialog box comes up with the following error: not found error 404.

    any suggestions as to why this is happening?

  27. This works great in Firefox but only one reply button on the first comment appears in IE. None of the later comments have the reply button in IE even though they are there if you view the same page/comments in Firefox.

  29. Hi - the only thing that would make this better is if the reply would actually start a thread instead of going to the bottom of the page. I'm sure someone as savvy as you can do it ;)

  48. This was super helpful in letting me know how to add a 'Reply' button in my comments, but does this actually let that person know i've replied to their comment individually? I placed the codes properly, and I see the 'reply' button, but when I click on 'reply' it takes me to a pop-up window showing ALL the comments. After posting my reply, it just looks like a Twitter mention with the "@" symbol w/ that specific person's ID name.
